Job summary

Nashville Zoo is seeking an Education Intern for Spring 2027 to gain hands-on experience in interpretation, program development, and conservation education across the zoo, outreach, and historic sites.

The role supports the Education Department and emphasizes building knowledge in wildlife biology, botany, history and park management while contributing to program evaluations and guest experiences.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and a current student or recent entrant.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Interest in working with animals and understanding animal behavior.
  • Entry level position intended to gain experience in this field.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn Nashville Zoo amenities, layout, operations, animal collection and conservation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development, facilitation and evaluation of education programs and interpretive experiences for diverse audiences on grounds, off grounds and virtually.
  • Interpret for a variety of species across the zoo and historic areas.
  • Develop programs aligned with Program Content Standards, NGSS and Common Core in Science, Math, Reading and Language Arts.
  • Develop program evaluations to assess learning and inform program development.
  • Contribute to guest experience improvements at Nashville Zoo.
  • Complete a project highlighting intern interest and takeaways.
