Job summary

Washoe Tribe Fire Department is seeking a Firefighter Type 2 Crewmember (Non-Exempt) in the Preparedness Resources Department. The role supports wildland suppression, fuels management, and incident response as part of a crew, applying fire behavior knowledge and operating pumps, hoses, and hand tools with PPE in varied terrain.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, annual arduous pack tests, multiple S- certifications, and NIMS ICS training.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and/or one year of manual labor.
• Pass arduous pack test annually.
• S-212 chainsaw cert with FAL-3 or obtain within 6 months.
• First aid and CPR cert or obtain within 6 months.
• OSHA (10 hours) cert or obtain within 1 year.
• NIMS compliant with ICS 100/200/700/800 or obtain within 1 year.
• Preference given to Qualified Native American Indians.

Responsibilities

• Maintain fitness level for hard labor in challenging conditions.
• Perform wildland fire and prescribed fire duties including suppression and mop-up.
• Operate engine pumps and hose lays; maintain equipment.
• Assist chainsaw operators and support crews as needed.
• Apply fuels knowledge and fire behavior to actions.
• Maintain PPE and standard operating procedures.
