Student Conservation Association in California seeks an entry-level Crew Member for the Wildland Fire Academy. You will train, live, and work with a crew on fuels mitigation projects, traveling between sites with a robust 3-week training period and wilderness certifications.

Qualifications

  • Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver's license with at least 3 years of driving experience.
  • Willingness to live in shared accommodations and comply with group housing rules.
  • Desire to perform manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions and environments.
  • Eligibility under Public Land Corps Authority and U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status.
  • Pass a comprehensive motor vehicle record check and participate in required training.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with fuels reduction tasks and other crew projects as assigned by USFS/SCA staff.
  • Engage in daily work, training, and team activities to meet mission goals.
  • Participate in meal planning, emergency planning, and logistical tasks.
  • Record work totals and assist in preparing reports for agency partners.
  • Communicate effectively with the crew and external partners.
