Job summary

State of North Carolina - Agriculture & Consumer Services is seeking a Forest Fire Equipment Operator (S) to maintain and operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, motor graders, and excavators used in wildland fire suppression and forest management.

This role may require overnight travel, after-hours readiness, CDL within 90 days of hire, completion of NC FFEO training within two years, and pre-employment drug screening; uniforms provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years of heavy equipment operation experience.
• Completion of NC FFEO training within two years of hire.
• Possession of a current NC CDL on hire date or the ability to obtain CDL within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate bulldozer, hauling unit, and other heavy equipment for wildland fire suppression.
• Perform minor equipment repairs and assist district mechanic with major repairs.
• Respond to emergencies and may work after hours, weekends, and during fire danger periods.
