Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering a wildfire risk analysis internship in Denver for students pursuing engineering or data-focused degrees. You will organize wildfire data and assess information related to wildfires and utilities, preparing reports in a hybrid, in-person summer schedule.

The internship may extend beyond the initial term based on performance and business needs; pay starts at $21.20 to $23.10 per hour with standard benefits.

Qualifications

  • Current student, Freshman or higher (as of Fall 2027).
  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering realted fields, data management, data integration.
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Risk Analysis support can serve several functions within the wildfire program. Work will focus on Wildfire metrics as they relate to how our system is built or work completion impacts on the system related to fire mitigation, resiliency, and reporting.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Organize wildfire data sets to support system and activity analysis
  • Provide external assessment of information and data gathered concerning wildfires and utilities
  • Monetize wildfire information
  • Organize quantitative and qualitative wildfire information
  • Prepare and format reportable information in various formats
  • Wildfire problem solving

This position is for a May 31, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Current student, Freshman or higher (as of Fall 2027)
  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering realted fields, data management, data integration
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Excel spreadsheets, Word, Power Point
  • Analytical experience
  • One year of college
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Willingness to take the initiative
  • Intermediate level computer use skills
  • Basic level of AI use
