Finishing Department Cutting Operator

• Department: Finishing / Production
• Reports To: Finishing Supervisor and/or Production Manager
• FLSA Status: Non-exempt / Hourly
• Location: Elkhorn, WI

Position Summary

The Finishing Department Cutting Operator is responsible for accurately cutting, trimming, routing, scoring, creasing, and finishing raw materials and printed stock according to customer specifications, job tickets, engineering drawings, cutting files, and Yunker quality standards. This position operates cutting equipment, including digital cutting systems such as Zünd, and supports the safe, efficient movement of work through the Finishing Department.The role requires attention to detail, reliable documentation in Pace ERP, strong communication with leads and supervisors, and the ability to maintain quality and productivity in a fast-paced production environment. Advancement from Level 1 through Level 4 is based on demonstrated capability, quality performance, equipment proficiency, safety, documentation discipline, and ability to support department workflow.

Essential Responsibilities

• Follow job tickets, Pace job specifications, cutting files, artwork, engineering drawings, approved samples, and verbal direction from leads or supervisors.
• Accurately use Pace ERP for time entry, job cost transactions, inventory transactions, production quantities, activity codes, and Data Collection notes as required.
• Cut, trim, stage, count, sort, label, and document raw materials and/or printed stock according to customer and Yunker quality standards.
• Inspect work for quality, accuracy, dimensional requirements, material condition, and obvious defects before moving work to the next step.
• Follow first-piece verification, signoff, transit ticket, departmental transfer, and material movement procedures.
• Communicate job issues, specification questions, equipment concerns, material defects, spoilage, downtime, and safety concerns promptly to the lead or supervisor.
• Support daily production priorities, department handoffs, and on-time completion of work.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including routine housekeeping around machines, materials, tools, and finished components.
• Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, machine guarding expectations, blade/tool handling procedures, pallet jack procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements where applicable.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
• Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, reach, lift, and move materials throughout the shift.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier or oversized items.
• Must be able to handle large sheets, rolls, boards, pallets, tooling, blades, bits, finished components, and production materials safely.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• Must be able to work overtime as required by job completion deadlines or supervisor request.

Work Environment

• Work is performed in a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment.
• The employee may be exposed to cutting equipment, blades, routers, moving machine parts, dust, noise, printed materials, adhesives, and varying production demands.
• The majority of work will be performed in the Finishing Department; however, support in other production areas may be required to ensure accurate and timely project execution.
