Job summary

Southwest Community Health Center Inc in Bridgeport, CT is seeking a Nutrition Education Specialist to provide nutrition education, information, and referrals to WIC participants.

You will assess nutritional risk, conduct diet assessments, certify eligibility, and implement the nutrition component plan, collaborating with staff to meet program objectives.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s in Nutrition, Master’s preferred, experience in health agency, CPR/BLS, and strong communication skills.

• Bachelor's degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or home economics with a major in foods and nutrition
• Prior experience in nutrition in a health agency or health care facility
• Minimum of one year experience with a Master’s degree
• Minimum of two years’ experience with a Bachelor’s degree

Responsibilities

SUMMARY

Responsible for providing nutrition education, information, and referrals to participants of the WIC Program.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• As a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) on the staff of the local program, determines and documents nutritional risk of WIC participants.
• Is responsible for the diet assessment of WIC participants.
• Assures proper certification of eligible applicants.
• Assists with the implementation of the nutrition component plan of the local program.
• Assists with meeting local program objectives.
• Provides nutrition education and counseling that is appropriate to the WIC participant.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Excellent writing, speaking and organizational abilities.
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Computer knowledge required.
• CPR/BLS Certified

Education and/or Experience

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or home economics with a major in foods and nutrition, from an accredited institution
• Prior experience in nutrition in a health agency or health care facility
• Minimum of one year experience with a Master’s degree
• Minimum of two years’ experience with a Bachelor’s degree

Compensation and Benefits

In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The compensation of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation.
