Job description

WHS Specialist, Workplace Health & Safety

Amazon Australia is seeking a WHS Specialist (WHSS) to serve as a designated safety professional on site. The WHSS will coordinate and implement all areas of the Amazon Global Safety Program, promoting a positive safety culture while complying with Amazon safety standards and maintaining a safe work environment. This includes conducting trainings and coaching associates on observed work habits.

The WHSS must be an effective communicator, delivering clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. The WHSS will instruct and train associates, operations leaders, and WHS coordinators in Amazon policies and procedures and assist the operations site teams in incorporating our standards. The WHSS will identify best practices and integrate these into our processes, continuously improving safety and ergonomics.

The WHSS will maintain accurate metrics (daily, weekly, and monthly) to report to onsite management teams and corporate reporting systems. Leveraging lean principles and kaizens, the WHSS will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce safety and ergonomic risk. The WHSS will support the site WHS manager in developing the WHS Management System for Australia, establishing compliance calendars, and setting up inspection and audit programs to meet local and global GEMS standards.

This role is a day shift position, Monday to Friday, but may move to various shifts based on business needs.

Key job responsibilities

• Oversee the delivery of H&S objectives at the fulfillment center, proactively collaborating on safety projects across the site.
• Ensure compliance with Amazon's Workplace Health & Safety policies and global standards by completing risk assessments, measuring site performance, and analyzing safety metrics.
• Conduct frequent site audits and inspections to identify and rectify non‑compliance issues with equipment or processes.
• Audit record‑keeping practices to align with global standards and regulations.
• Lead and mentor on‑site safety coordinators, identifying compliance issues, safety risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Facilitate incident investigations, maintain required documentation, and enter safety incidents into the database promptly.
• Conduct safety observations and audits, provide targeted training, and participate in process improvement activities.

A day in the life

• Review metrics in the Daily Deep Dive dashboard.
• Identify metric callouts and assign owners to discuss during DDD meetings.
• Moderate the WHS metrics/data discussion during DDD meetings.
• Review investigation, root cause analysis and action plan submitted by the responsible manager, providing feedback as needed.
• Conduct risk assessment, attend and facilitate safety committee meetings, partner with ops managers to solve issues.
• Respond to emergency calls on site (unsafe loads, incidents, etc.).

Qualifications
