Job summary

Menzies Aviation in Oakland, California seeks a wheelchair passenger assistant to help travellers requiring mobility support at the airport. You will push wheelchair passengers to gates, assist them through jet bridges, complete incident reports, follow dispatcher orders, and maintain a friendly, professional attitude while coordinating with staff and airport authorities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to obtain an airport badge and pass background checks.
  • Must be 18 years or older and legally eligible to work in the US.
  • Able to lift up to 70 lbs and operate in a busy terminal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Push wheelchair passengers to and from gates.
  • Roll passenger-occupied wheelchairs safely down jet bridges.
  • Ensure wheel brakes are engaged before passenger transfer.
  • Complete wheelchair or incident reports as required.
  • Follow dispatcher gate orders.
  • Maintain a friendly and attentive attitude toward passengers and staff.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, airline staff, and airport authorities.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Role Purpose

Responsible for assisting and transporting airline passengers requiring assistance, including wheelchair assistance at the airport.

What you will be doing
  • Push wheelchair passengers to and from gates
  • Roll customer-occupied wheelchair safely down the jet bridge
  • Ensure wheel brakes are in place prior to allowing passengers to exit the wheelchair
  • Complete any necessary wheelchair or incident reports
  • Follow dispatcher gate orders
  • Maintain a friendly and positive attitude and is attentive to each passenger's individual needs; by assisting passengers with any problems, questions, or concerns
  • Maintain professional working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, managers, airline employees, and airport authorities
  • Carry out other duties as assigned

What we are looking for:
  • Ability to work various shifts
  • Strong verbal and communication skills
  • Able to hear and respond to the spoken voice and to audible alarms generated by terminal environment
  • Able tolift upto 70lbs.
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred
  • Ability to obtain an airport badge
  • Must be 18 years of age and eligible to work in the US
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check and a drug screen
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License
