Whale Watching Naturalist | Eco-Tour Boat Crew Member

Join Captain Dave’s Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari, one of Southern California’s top-rated eco-tour companies, as a Part-Time Vessel Crew Member and Marine Naturalist in Dana Point Harbor, CA.

Pay: Starting at $18/hr (negotiable based on experience) plus tips, bonuses, and more.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with vessel operations, including steering, safety protocols, and passenger boarding.
  • Serve as a Marine Naturalist, spotting and identifying wildlife such as whales, dolphins, seabirds, and sharing facts with passengers.
  • Capture wildlife and guest photography, and assist with media sales.
  • Perform equipment checks and boat maintenance (engines, safety gear, navigation systems).
  • Coordinate crew activities and communicate sightings and weather conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with marine safety standards and operational procedures.
  • Restock, fuel, and prepare vessels for daily tours.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1+ year experience in vessel operations, deckhand work, or marine eco-tourism.
  • Passion for marine life and engaging with people.
  • Comfortable with physical work and changing ocean conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude; diesel/outboard experience is a plus.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and occasional early or late shifts.
  • Age 21+ (due to serving alcohol onboard).
