Job summary

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection in Fort Myers is seeking an Environmental Specialist II to process permit applications and conduct compliance inspections for the Submerged Lands and Environmental Resource Coordination Program. Qualifications

Four or more years in regulatory inspection, compliance, permitting or related professional experience.
Post-secondary degree in natural or physical science may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Ability to perform field inspections, including climbing ladders, walking on slopes, and lifting 40 pounds.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel, including overnight stays.
Must obtain CWE certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

Process permit applications related to dredging, filling, wetlands, and surface waters.
Conduct compliance inspections to ensure adherence to state environmental regulations.
Review and analyze permit applications and prepare technical reports.
Perform field inspections and related duties under limited supervision.
