Description

As a Wet Painter 3, you will serve as an experienced technical resource and trainer within the wet paint work center. In addition to independently performing all wet painting operations, you will troubleshoot production and quality issues, complete and verify product quality requirements, perform complex paint repairs, and anticipate issues that could affect downstream operations or production schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently complete all work center operations and verify product compliance with applicable quality checklists.
• Review production schedules and identify issues that could affect scheduled completion.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise within the work center.
• Perform paint repairs and rework on parts and localized areas requiring correction.
• Perform and verify complete product quality inspections without assistance.
• Evaluate downstream operations and identify potential problems before they affect subsequent processes.
• Monitor and adjust wash-system chemicals according to process requirements.
• Perform required periodic maintenance on the wash system.
• Maintain and reinforce work center 5S requirements.
• Train employees on individual tasks and processes required within the work center.
• Follow applicable procedures, policies, and work instructions associated with paint operations.
• Complete work center tasks within established production time requirements.
• Use work center tools correctly and return tools to designated storage locations.
• Follow established quality requirements for assigned tasks.
• Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing assigned work.
• Work with team members to safely handle and lift larger parts.
• Properly use and store tools required for work-center operations.
• Maintain the work center in accordance with established 5S requirements.
• Work safely around forklift and crane operations and follow designated aisles, work zones, and storage areas.
• Operate power/hand tools, measuring devices, and instruments used for assembly.
• Adhere to established work schedules, break periods, and company policies regarding phone use, smoking, music, and general workplace conduct.
• Use required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, masks, safety shoes, and other work-center-specific PPE.
• Understand and follow quality standards and workmanship requirements for assigned tasks and responsibilities.

Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma/GED required
• Experience: One year of continuous experience in a manufacturing environment with 5+ years' experience as an industrial painter required
• Reading Ability: Must be able to read and understand English

Skills:

• Ability to interpret and follow verbal and written instructions, technical specifications, and established procedures.
• Advanced skill in industrial wet paint preparation, application, inspection, and repair.
• Advanced knowledge of paint quality standards and acceptance criteria, with the ability to inspect and verify finished products for compliance.
• Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve paint process and quality issues.
• Ability to perform paint repair, rework, and corrective actions and recommend process improvements.
• Strong understanding of production schedules and workflow dependencies, with the ability to anticipate issues that may affect upstream or downstream operations.
• Ability to perform multiple work-center functions and provide flexible support as production needs require.
• Ability to train Wet Paint employees by demonstrating proper work methods and providing effective hands-on instruction.
• Ability to serve as a technical resource for Wet Paint employees.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within established procedures.
• Ability to meet established production and cycle-time requirements.
• Basic ability to read fabrication plans and identify parts by model, unit, or job number.
• Work safely around forklifts, cranes, production aisles, work zones, and material storage areas.
• Ability to safely use power tools/hand tools and properly store work-center tools.
• Ability to learn and safely operate crane equipment after required training.
• Understanding of PPE, shop safety, and 5S requirements.
• Ability to lift and handle parts weighing up to 40 pounds and work with team members to handle larger parts.
• Ability to work effectively with others and receive direction from more experienced painters.
• Provide flexible support across all production areas as needed.
