The Licensed/Registered/Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) is responsible for maintaining excellent patient care and operational productivity by helping the Veterinarian leverage their time and efforts to meet the needs of their clients and patients. The Licensed/Registered/Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) works to relieve the Veterinarian from technical work and administrative detail to achieve greater levels of efficiency in daily practice. Licensed/Registered/Certified Veterinary Technicians (LVT/RVT/CVT) help facilitate and streamline communication from the operating room to the front office staff and most importantly, the client.

A day in the life (duties may vary depending on state regulations):

• Assists the Veterinarian in medical, surgical, and dental surgeries, including preparing clients for surgery by assisting in the administering of anesthesia and properly restraining the animals as needed for examination and treatment.
• Supervise unlicensed team members completing the following tasks: suture to close existing skin incisions and skin lacerations, induce anesthesia, draw blood, and take samples for lab testing purposes.
• Under direct supervision of a Veterinarian, the Licensed/Registered/Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) may: suture to close existing surgical skin incisions and skin lacerations, induce anesthesia, administer rabies vaccine, extract loose teeth or dental fragments in dogs and cats only and euthanasia.

Essential qualifications:

• At least 18 years of age at the time of hire
• At least 1 year of veterinary industry experience
• Holds a valid State License as an LVT, RVT, or CVT
• Understanding and ability to properly, and safely, restrain animals
• Knowledgeable on veterinary medical terminology and medication
• Must be able to lift 50lbs independently

Physical Demands Breakdown

Stooping, Bending, & Squatting: Technicians must continuously bend, kneel, and crouch to examine low-set patients, clean bottom-tier kennels, pull medical inventory, or safely restrain large animals on the floor.

Heavy Lifting: Listings universally require the ability to lift at least 40 to 50 pounds independently. Team lifting or mechanical assistance is mandated for patients exceeding this weight threshold.

Prolonged Standing: Sit-down time is minimal and typically limited to inputting digital patient records. Expect to spend 8 to 10 hours a day actively on your feet.

Static Restraint: Maintaining an active crouch or bend while holding a nervous or aggressive animal completely still during a medical procedure.
