Job summary

American Preparatory Academy in West Valley City, UT is seeking a dedicated educational assistant to supervise and instruct general education students, including those with mild disabilities. Under the supervision of Elementary Directors, you will support the homeroom teacher, lead Math, Reading and Spelling groups, and assist with daily routines and classroom tasks.

You will collaborate with staff, communicate with administrators, and contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment

Qualifications

• Energetic, enthusiastic and committed to student success.
• Ability to accept constructive criticism and adjust accordingly.
• Able to work well in a teamwork environment with coaching in teaching.
• Able to demonstrate good classroom management skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides supervision and instruction to students with special needs.
• Supervise special needs students during recess and lunch.
• Provides consistent communication to the Elementary Directors regarding students.
• Responsible for teaching Math, Reading and Spelling groups based on student ability.
• Clear the way for the homeroom teacher – running copies, grading homework, etc.
• Provides guidance and support to students in a positive manner.
• May act as the homeroom teacher when the homeroom teacher is unavailable.
• Must work well under pressure and have the ability to diffuse temper tantrums.
• Assist with Carpool (morning and afternoon assignments may vary).
• Uphold the Character Development characteristics taught on a monthly basis.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties:

Schedule

Typical schedule is M, T, W, F : 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Th: 8:00am - 3:00 pm (hours may vary based on campus)

Education Requirements

• Earned an Associate Degree; or
• Earned 48 college credit hours; or
• Successfully completing a basic academic skills (ParaPro) exam or completion of the Project Para Modules within the first week of hire.
