Job summary

Qualifications
- CT Coaching Education Program Module 15 completion.
- Connecticut Coaching permit or Temporary Coach permit.
- CPR and First Aid certificates.
- Lifeguard certification - Swimming only.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Successful completion of pre-employment process.
- May be required to possess a valid driver's license.
Responsibilities
- Instruct middle school athletes in a specified sport and develop skill.
- Provide leadership to promote discipline, sportsmanship and self-esteem.
- Assist in scheduling games, practices, and officiating as needed.
- Support equipment and facility readiness for practices and events.
- Monitor student safety and administer first aid when required.
- Communicate with teachers and head coach regarding strategies and progress.
- Model professionalism and positive interaction with students, staff, and parents.

This job assignment is accountable for instructing middle and/or alternate student athletes in a specific sports activity and providing leadership in helping each participating student achieve a high level of skill, and appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship and an increased level of self-esteem.
- Certificate of Completion for Module 15 from the Connecticut Coaching Education Program.
- Connecticut State Department of Education Coach permit or Temporary Coach permit.

- Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a current Motor Vehicle operator's license.

- Communicates with head coach regarding coaching strategies and procedures;
- Complies with Board policies and District procedures in the development and maintenance of the interscholastic athletics program;
- Conducts oneself with tact and diplomacy;

- Maintains respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student athlete grades for eligibility purposes, etc.;

- Maintains satisfactory attendance;
- Oversees the condition of the locker room;
- Participates in awards program and distributes awards to players;
- Promotes good public relations through personal appearance, attitude, and conversation;
- Provides a positive learning environment for athletes;
- Provides information and reports to Director in a timely manner;
- Reports all injuries to school nurse and/or principal;
- Responds to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner;
- Responsible for the issuance, care and inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms;
- Schedules fundraising activities as approved by the Principal;
- Schedules, plans, and conducts all practice sessions and scrimmages as approved by the Principal;
- Serves as a role model for students;
- Verifies that players have turned in physical forms and other necessary paperwork to the school nurse prior to engaging in the sport.
Individuals appointed to these assignments must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the assignment.
