Job summary

State of Oklahoma through the Norman Veterans Home seeks a full-time Recreational Activities Specialist to plan and conduct leisure-time and physical education activities for residents and staff.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field, plus experience in directing community-based recreation programs. Night/weekend rotation may be required in some positions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, or a closely related field.
• A bachelor’s degree plus one year of related instructing/directing experience.
• Knowledge of recreational/athletic group work, sports rules, and first aid.
• Ability to conduct group activities, supervise and instruct others, and act in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and conducts leisure-time and physical education activities.
• Directs group activities to develop teamwork, communication and cooperation; maintains order.
• Supervises, coaches and instructs indoor and outdoor team events.
• Teaches physical education, hygiene, sanitation and good personal habits.
• Involves in equipment procurement and selection for programs.
