Job summary

Michigan Department of Corrections seeks a Welding Trades Instructor to teach a comprehensive welding program to prisoner-students. The position requires an associate degree in a related trade, with substitutions possible for higher degrees.

Qualifications

• Possession of an associate's degree in an area of the specific trade or occupation to be taught.
• Educational level may be substituted with bachelor's/master's degree or vocational teacher certification.
• Four years of experience in the skilled craft of welding pertaining to fusion, adhesion, and cutting.
• Some jobs require state certifications for the occupation.

Responsibilities

• Teach a technical welding trade to prisoners.
• Administer tests and provide counseling to help prisoners-students complete the program.
• Direct supervision of prisoners (80% of work week) within a Secure Level II facility.
• Instruct in Oxy-Acetylene Safety, TIG, MIG, FCAW and other welding processes.
