Join to apply for the Welding R&D Engineer 1/2 role at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Sigma Division is seeking a Research and Development Engineer with a Metallurgy, Welding, or similar Engineering background to work within a diverse R&D program supporting weapons and global security programs at LANL as well as external collaborators, including universities, private industry, and other government laboratories.

The Welding & Joining (W&J) Team applies various welding disciplines to solve manufacturing challenges, supports computational efforts, and collaborates across teams to innovate in welding and joining processes. This position can be filled at the R&D Engineer 1 or 2 level, with additional responsibilities at the higher level.

Responsibilities:

• Lead research activities in high energy density welding, vacuum brazing, arc welding, or related modeling efforts.
• Design and fabricate experimental assemblies with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Develop new methods and techniques for technical problems.
• Provide expertise in high energy density welding and support production needs.
• Contribute to technical publications and proposals.
• Support procurement and maintenance of equipment.

Additional for R&D Engineer 2:

• Lead proposals and serve as a primary interface between engineering and manufacturing.
• Mentor junior staff and participate in professional societies and external groups.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Level 1: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, 2 years related experience, or equivalent.

Level 2: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, 4 years related experience, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to obtain a Q clearance (U.S. citizenship required).

Position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. Requires U.S. citizenship for security clearance. The role involves physical activity, including lifting 30+ pounds.
