Job summary

HII's Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia is seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to expedite productivity and quality improvements in welding operations. You will coordinate projects from initiation through implementation and provide hands-on assistance with automatic welding systems and new materials.

The ideal candidate has knowledge of ship construction methods, welding processes and equipment, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent with at least eight years welding experience.
• Knowledge of ship construction, welding processes and equipment.
• Excellent communication skills.
• NNS Apprentice graduate with automation welding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise and lead productivity/quality improvements in welding operations.
• Coordinate projects from initiation to implementation, including equipment/testing/modification and training.
• Provide hands-on support for automatic systems and new materials introductions.
• Assist in job planning, equipment setup and troubleshooting during implementation.
• Coordinate movement of equipment and materials and necessary services.
• Liaise between Trades and Welding Engineering/Design to resolve technical problems.
