Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a Research and Development Scientist for the Sigma Division, Welding and Joining team. Lead cutting-edge R&D in high energy density welding, brazing, and solid-state joining, addressing challenges from distortion to process optimization.

Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in solidification metallurgy and ability to lead technically.
Experience leading R&D activities in high energy density welding or related joining methods.
Proven ability to contribute to proposals for welding solutions.
Experience in integrated, cross-disciplinary teams to design and fabricate experimental assemblies.
Strong technical writing record, with publications.
Experience mentoring junior staff or students in research or manufacturing.
Commitment to safety and security in all work activities.

Responsibilities

Develop and lead multiple R&D projects in welding and joining.
Communicate results to diverse stakeholders and influence research direction.
Drive funding through proposals and work packages.
Support production across the program as needed.
Collaborate with partners across programs, universities, industry, and national labs.
