Job summary

Construction Material Testing in Reno, NV is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a CWI on structural steel and pipe welds, verify fit-up, inspect welds to AWS D1.1 and D1.5, and maintain inspection logs.

You will coordinate with NDT technicians, review WPS/PQR documentation, certify welders, and support the path toward CAWI/CWI with company sponsorship for the exam and ongoing on-site travel as required.

Qualifications

• CAWI certification or eligible to sit for the CWI exam.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height and on active sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT tech and record results.
