Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton is seeking a Welding/Materials Engineer to support the welding program across Virginia, Columbia, and Los Angeles class submarines. Responsibilities include on-site issue resolution during production welding, developing technical reports, and implementing new welding processes to improve quality and efficiency in nuclear and non-nuclear systems.

Qualifications

  • Read and interpret specifications, procedures, drawings and other documents.
  • Critically analyze problems and implement corrective actions.
  • 0-5 years of postgraduate engineering experience.
  • Industrial environment experience is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with welding and non-destructive testing methods.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate welding and fabrication issues and provide corrective actions.
  • Develop, review, and issue technical reports and work instructions.
  • Provide guidance on welding issues to engineering and operations teams.
  • Investigate and implement new welding equipment and provide production support.
  • Interface with operations to provide deckplate-level hands-on support.
  • Lead process improvement and cost-reduction tasks in welding and fabrication.
  • Coordinate with EB Engineering, Operations, IT, Training and Navy as required.
  • Interpret welding and NDT and consumable specs (military and commercial).
  • Develop and maintain welding standards, procedures and best practices.
