Job summary

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with 5+ years relevant experience or an Associate/Bachelor's in a related field.
  • Experience with GMAW, plasma, SAW welding processes.
  • Achieve AWS CWI/CWE/CWS within 2 years of eligibility.
  • Strong MS Office skills and ability to create tracking matrices.
  • Previous training experience and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math and read measuring tools.
  • Must maintain high safety awareness and lift up to 50 pounds.

2nd Shift (4:00 pm - 2:30 am; Mon - Thursday)

The Welding Coordinator is an Individual Contributor responsible for providing training and welding support for El Dorado 2nd Shift Operations, including training, testing, and certifying persons to weld; data management and analysis; assistance with project justifications; and identifying and analysing opportunities for improvement and waste reduction. The incumbent works closely with employees and site leadership to identify training needs and support new and existing employees in developing the necessary skill sets to be successful in their assigned positions. This role implements new weld procedures and investigates, in coordination with Division resources, welding related problems in the plant.

Essential Functions
  • Provide coaching and training, both one-on-one and in a group setting, to new and existing weld staff per a developed curriculum including technical training and qualification
  • Evaluate potential welding candidates and maintain records associated with evaluations
  • Maintain and update welding certifications as appropriate
  • Provide training on topics including, but not limited to, manipulative skills to weld, knowledge and understanding of welding process and equipment (including Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)), safe welding, metal cutting practices (including Oxyfuel and Plasma cutting), grinding, and blue print reading with welding symbols
  • Perform equipment calibration and maintain associated records for all critical equipment in quality and manufacturing departments
  • Ensure all welding equipment meets compliance standards
  • Assist with continuous improvement and welding operations
  • Perform a variety of statistical processing control (SPC) measuring, data gathering and analysis
  • Perform spot audits to ensure compliance and performance
  • Ensure correct assembly of fabricated materials by dimensional checks and visual inspection of welds
  • Observe operating activities throughout all applicable weld areas; making recommendations, developing action plans and following up to ensure that action plans are effectively implemented
  • Actively participate in department safety, demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policy and procedures

  • This position reports to the Human Resources Manager
  • Provide technical support for customer concerns and third party audits
  • Attend and participate in daily staff meetings
  • Judgment and decision making skills while comparing relative cost and benefit potential
  • Motivate, develop and direct people without having direct authority over them
  • Perform hands on welding when not engaged in administrative duties
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years relevant experience or Associate’s Degree with 2+ years of experience or Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • Experience with and knowledge of the following welding processes: Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), plasma, and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
  • Achieve American Welding Society – Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Certified Welding Educator (CWE), and/or Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS) accreditations within 2 years of eligibility
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including the ability to create tracking matrices
  • Previous training experience
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees and general public
  • The ability to perform basic math functions such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
  • The ability to accurately use and read a tape measure, thread gauges, micrometer, protractor, and dial calipers
  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Welding Technology
  • Minimum of 12 months of experience welding in a manufacturing environment
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector certification (CWI)
  • Working Knowledge of The American Welding Society Codes D1.1 and D1.5
  • Experience in statistical data collection methods and problem resolution
  • Demonstrated understanding of Lean principles and methodology
  • The ability to work timely and expeditiously to deliver an on-time result without errors
  • The ability to prioritize work in order to complete deadlines
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
