Job summary

Great Plains Manufacturing in Salina, KS, is offering a structured Weld School Trainee program. Trainees will join a 9-week on-site welding course, with classroom learning in the mornings and hands-on welding in the afternoons under the supervision of an experienced Weld Instructor.

No prior weld experience is required, but attention to detail, teamwork, and safety compliance are essential as participants learn foundation skills and progressively improve through hands-on practice and coaching.

Qualifications

• Weld experience is helpful but not required.
• Attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong team player mindset.
• Ability to read blueprints and tape measures.
• Willingness to embrace Lean Manufacturing and change.
• Follow Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear PPE as required.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the 9-week Weld School on-site in Salina, learning foundation welding skills.
• Receive classroom instruction in the mornings and hands-on welding practice in the afternoons with coaching by a Weld Instructor.
• Demonstrate safety awareness and proper PPE usage while learning new techniques.

Join our 9-Week Weld School and learn Production Welding at Great Plains! Weld School classes are held on-site at our Weld Shops in Salina. Training schedule is Monday-Thursday on 1st Shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In the mornings, you’ll learn weld foundation skills in the classroom. In the afternoons, you'll practice hands-on welding with individual coaching from an experienced Weld Instructor.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• Prior weld experience is helpful for this program, but not required.
• Ability to give strong attention to detail and stay on-task in a fast-paced environment
• Have a good understanding of team concepts and be a strong team player
• Ability to safely use hand and power tools; ability to read blueprints and tape measure
• Capable of embracing a culture of Lean Manufacturing and implementation of change
• Ability to follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed PPE as required
