Job summary

Textron Systems is seeking a Welder (Land) to weld ballistic steel and aluminum in all positions using GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW. Applicants must read drawings and weld symbols, be able to pass welding tests, and certify as welders in accordance with Textron/M&L standards.

The role requires the ability to work in varied positions, pass NDT-related tests, and operate with safety around heavy equipment and elevated work areas. High school diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

• Two to three (2-3) years of GMAW, FCAW and GTAW experience preferred.
• Must be able to certify as a Welder per M&L Policies/Procedures and Weld Standards.
• Must be able to read drawings and weld symbols.

Responsibilities

• Welding of ballistic steel and aluminum in all positions; standing, sitting, lying, kneeling; mirror welding as needed.
• Pass RT, PT, and NDT tests as required.
• Climb on/over bulkheads; work around ladders and vehicles.
• Perform tack welding and overhead welding; use jacks, porta-powers as needed.

About This Role

We believe people should love what they do – as a Welder in this role, you will be responsible for:

Responsibilities

• Welding[RH1.1] of Ballistic Steel and Aluminum materials in all positions. Must be able to work from standing, sitting, lying and kneeling positions. Some work must be accomplished with the use of mirror welding.
• Some work will have to pass RT, PT, and NDT type testing.
• Climbing on and over bulkheads, up and down ladders.
• Tack welding (kneeling, standing, sitting, lying, overhead burning of steel, dragging torch line)
• Use of jacks, porta-powers and come-a longs; some of which can weigh as much as 25 lbs.
• Lifting of material and tools (jacks, porta-powers, come-a longs, etc. Also loading and unloading of parts.
• Crawling through vehicle on top of floor plates and through hatch/door openings.
• Bending and twisting of your body as needed to get into different compartments.
• Operation of cranes and forklifts.
• Use of power tools (gougers, skill saws, cut saws, grinders). All require two hands on tools to operate in safe manner
• Walking on top of vehicle roof and bottom plates when position in the rollover fixture to achieve welding on a flat.
• Need to be able to work with your hands.
• Other duties assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

• Two-Three (2-3) plus years of GMAW, FCAW and GTAW experience needed.
• Demonstrated skills based on the results of the welding test.
• Must be able to weld in all positions.
• Must[RH2.1] be able to certify as a Welder in accordance with M&L Policies/Procedures and Weld Standards.
• May need to qualify to contractual welds standards per the contract that are outside of Textron’s internal Policies and weld standards.
• Willingness and flexibility to work extended hours as needed to accomplish the task or work with little or no prior notification.
• Must be able to read drawings, must know basic weld symbols and know how to use fillet weld gauges.
