Job summary

Rodney Hunt is seeking a Welder IV to serve as a subject matter expert in welding, fabrication, and industrial assembly. You will lead and mentor welders, interpret complex blueprints, and ensure components meet design and safety standards in a water control equipment environment.

The role requires 8+ years of welding experience, proficiency in MIG/TIG/Stick, and ability to lead complex fabrication projects with a focus on quality and process improvement.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform expert-level MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on a wide variety of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and cast iron.
  • Lead the fabrication and assembly of large, complex structures and components used in water control and related systems.
  • Interpret, review, and validate blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and weld symbols to ensure design compliance.
  • Determine welding methods, procedures, and parameters to achieve quality, productivity, and safety.
  • Conduct advanced inspections and verify weld quality using visual inspection and standards.
  • Troubleshoot complex fabrication and welding issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Serve as a technical resource for welding personnel and mentor on techniques and setup.
  • Lead training and skill development for Welders I-III.
  • Collaborate with production leadership to identify process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Oversee safe rigging and handling of large assemblies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental policies.
  • Support prototype development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Overview

The Welder IV is the highest skilled welding classification within the organization and serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in welding, fabrication, and industrial assembly. This position provides technical leadership, establishes quality standards, supports workforce development, and performs the most complex welding and fabrication assignments. The Welder IV partners with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations to ensure products meet company, customer, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform expert-level MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on a wide variety of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and cast iron.
  • Lead the fabrication and assembly of large, complex structures and components utilized in water control and related industrial systems.
  • Interpret, review, and validate complex blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and weld symbols to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Determine welding methods, procedures, and parameters to achieve optimal quality, productivity, and safety.
  • Conduct advanced inspections and verify weld quality using visual inspection methods and applicable quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot complex fabrication and welding issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Serve as a technical resource for welding personnel and provide guidance on welding techniques, equipment setup, and best practices.
  • Lead training, mentoring, and skill development initiatives for Welders I, II, and III.
  • Collaborate with production leadership to identify process improvements, tooling enhancements, and manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Oversee the safe rigging, lifting, and movement of large fabricated assemblies using cranes, hoists, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Support prototype development, special projects, and continuous improvement initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of advanced industrial welding and fabrication experience; 10+ years preferred.
  • Expert proficiency in MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) welding processes.
  • Demonstrated mastery of blueprint reading, geometric measurements, and weld symbol interpretation.
  • Ability to perform and pass advanced welding qualification tests.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop others in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Successful completion of a Non-DOT physical examination to verify the ability to safely perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work, including standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS Certified Welder (CW), AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in heavy steel fabrication, water control equipment, gates, valves, or similar industrial products.
  • Experience with rigging, crane operation, and safe load-handling practices.
  • Familiarity with welding procedures (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and applicable welding codes and standards.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Regular exposure to welding fumes, sparks, heat, noise, and hot materials.
  • Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and fabrication shop environment, with occasional outdoor work as required.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmet, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, flame-resistant clothing, and steel-toed footwear.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate schedules based on operational needs.
