Job summary

Tri-Arc Manufacturing is seeking a Welder II to join our mid-level production team. You will perform MIG welding on steel components for safety ladders, steps, platforms, and related products, following blueprints and work instructions.

You will read weld symbols, set up equipment, weld various joint types, and maintain quality with basic inspections, documentation, and a focus on safety and efficiency in a fabrication environment.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of hands-on welding in a production or fabrication environment.
• Solid MIG welding on steel; aluminum welding experience or willingness to train.
• Ability to read and interpret standard blueprints and weld symbols.
• Ability to pass a welder qualification/skills test on company equipment (steel; aluminum a plus).
• Basic proficiency with measuring tools to verify dimensions.
• Good attention to detail and consistent, quality workmanship.
• Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions with moderate supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon steel and, with training, aluminum components for safety ladders, steps, platforms, conveyor tables, and related products.
• Read and interpret standard blueprints, weld symbols, and work orders to determine joint type and welding sequence.
• Set up welding equipment based on established parameters for common material types and thicknesses.
• Fit, tack, and weld components using jigs and fixtures to ensure proper alignment and dimensional accuracy.
• Weld standard joint types (butt, fillet, lap, corner) in flat and horizontal positions; perform vertical/overhead welding with supervision or as trained.
• Visually inspect welds for defects and perform basic grinding/cleanup; flag serious defects to a lead or supervisor.
• Follow standard work instructions and quality checkpoints for assigned production jobs.

The Welder II is a mid-level production welder capable of performing standard and moderately complex welding tasks on steel and aluminum components with limited supervision. This role builds on foundational welding skills, taking on a wider range of joint types, materials, and production jobs than an entry-level welder, while working toward greater independence and speed. Welder II team members follow established procedures, drawings, and work instructions, escalating unusual or highly complex jobs to a Welder III or supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon steel and, with training, aluminum components for safety ladders, steps, platforms, conveyor tables, and related products.


• Read and interpret standard blueprints, weld symbols, and work orders to determine joint type and welding sequence, seeking guidance on complex or nonstandard drawings.


• Set up welding equipment (amperage, wire speed, gas flow) based on established parameters for common material types and thicknesses.


• Fit, tack, and weld components using jigs and fixtures to ensure proper alignment and dimensional accuracy.


• Weld standard joint types (butt, fillet, lap, corner) primarily in flat and horizontal positions; perform vertical and overhead welding with supervision or as trained.


• Visually inspect own welds for common defects (porosity, undercut, spatter) and perform basic grinding/cleanup; flag more serious defects to a lead or supervisor.


• Follow standard work instructions and quality checkpoints for assigned production jobs.


• Use precision measuring tools (tape measures, squares) to verify basic dimensional accuracy of completed work.


• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; perform basic routine maintenance on welding equipment and report malfunctions.


• Accurately complete production paperwork, travelers, and basic quality documentation.


• Follow all company safety policies and use required PPE at all times.


• Assist Welder III staff or supervisors on larger or more complex jobs as assigned.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of hands‑on welding experience in a production or fabrication environment (or equivalent welding certificate program plus relevant experience).


• Solid proficiency in MIG welding on steel; basic aluminum welding experience or willingness to train.


• Ability to read and interpret standard blueprints and weld symbols.


• Ability to pass a welder qualification/skills test on company equipment (steel; aluminum a plus).


• Basic proficiency with measuring tools (tape measure, square) to verify dimensions.


• Good attention to detail and consistent, quality workmanship.


• Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions with moderate supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal welding training/certificate from a trade school or apprenticeship program.


• Experience in ladder, platform, mezzanine, or material‑handling equipment fabrication, or other structural/metal fabrication settings.


• Familiarity with basic OSHA shop safety practices.
