Job description

Overview

Responsible for performing welding tasks to fabricate and repair metal structures and components. Work with various materials, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, using different welding techniques and equipment. Ensure T.D. Williamson (TDW) products meet the highest standards of quality and durability.

NOTE: This is a 2nd shift position; any interested applicants would need the availability to work Monday through Thursday, 4:30 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform MIG, TIG, flux core, sub arc and/or carbon arc welding on metal components and assemblies according to blueprints, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Interpret and follow blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols to accurately complete welding tasks.
  • Inspect welds for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to specifications; conduct tests to ensure welds meet required standards.
  • Operate and maintain welding equipment and tools, including setting up machines, changing electrodes, and ensuring proper functioning.
  • Prepare materials for welding by cutting, arc gouging, grinding, and cleaning metal surfaces; handle and store materials safely and efficiently.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment; report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions.
  • Work closely with others to ensure timely completion of projects and resolve any welding-related issues.
Experience

MIG, TIG, flux core, sub arc and carbon arc welding experience or any combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Excellent precision and accuracy in welding tasks including a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Can lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to endure prolonged periods of standing, and work in various positions such as kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping, squatting or lying down to access different parts of the project.
  • High level of hand-eye coordination for precise welding work and the ability to use hand tools effectively.
  • Ability to reach overhead or extend arms for welding tasks in challenging positions, as well as steady hands and arms for maintaining control during delicate welding operations.
  • Ability to move efficiently around workstations and sometimes into tight spaces or high platforms.
  • Excellent vision (or corrected vision), including depth perception and color recognition, for reading blueprints, monitoring welds, and identifying any flaws or imperfections.
  • Working in environments that may be hot due to welding processes, sometimes wearing heavy protective gear.
  • Ability to sustain physical activity over the entire shift, including repetitive motions and handling tools for extended periods.
  • Awareness of surroundings and adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Potential use of manufacturing machinery such as carts, pallet jacks, forklifts or conveyors, which may require training and certification.
  • These requirements can vary depending on the specific type of welding (e.g., MIG, TIG, or arc welding) and the industry or project scope.
