Job summary

Trystar is seeking a Welder I for our Faribault, MN facility. The role focuses on TIG and MIG welding of aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel with strict adherence to quality and safety standards. You will prepare surfaces, inspect materials, and maintain weld integrity according to engineering specifications.

Qualifications

  • Skilled in measuring tools and weld quality inspection.

  • Proven ability to weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform TIG and MIG welding on aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel.
  • Prepare surfaces and verify material integrity prior to welding.
  • Set up welding equipment, select torch, gas flow, and amperage.
  • Inspect finished welds for defects using visual inspection and basic NDT as needed.
  • Maintain safety and PPE compliance in the welding area.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and quality control to meet timelines.
  • Record production data and maintain welding documentation in ERP systems.
  • Train Welder I and II employees and monitor production workflows.

Trystar’s team members are our most important asset, we are in search of a Welder I, for our Faribault, MN facility. This position plays a critical role in achieving our strategic objectives. Trystar’s Welder I position is an important part of Trystar’s plan to become the world’s foremost custom solution provider.

Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, Welder III will be responsible for performing TIG and MIG welding on aluminum, mild steel, and stainless-steel components. They play a critical role in the fabrication process, using their expertise to produce high-quality welds that meet engineering specifications and industry standards.

In this role you will get to:
  • TIG/MIG Welding: Perform TIG and MIG welding on aluminum, mild steel, and stainless-steel materials utilizing precise heat control and filler metal to create strong and aesthetically appealing welds.
  • Weld Preparation: Clean and prepare aluminum surfaces for welding, removing any contaminants or impurities that could affect the quality of the weld.
  • Material Inspection: Examine and verify the integrity of aluminum, mild steel, or stainless-steel materials to ensure they meet the required quality standards before welding.
  • Welding Parameters: Set up and adjust welding equipment, including selecting the appropriate TIG welding torch, gas flow, and amperage, based on the thickness and type of materials being welded.
  • Weld Quality Control: Inspect finished welds for defects and discontinuities, using visual inspection and non-destructive testing methods as required to ensure the product being manufactured is meeting required specifications.
  • Welding Joints: Work with a variety of welding joint configurations, such as butt joints, lap joints, and fillet welds, depending on the project's specifications.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols while performing TIG and MIG welding, ensuring compliance with company and industry safety regulations.
  • Material Handling: Safely handle and move aluminum materials and welded components during the welding process.
  • Training: Assist in training and mentoring of Welder I and Welder II employees.
  • Production Monitoring: Monitor the manufacturing process to maintain a steady workflow and promptly address any deviations or inefficiencies. This also includes daily production reports, tally sheets, scrap reports, etc. Must be able to understand the job orders and interact with Epicor.
  • Documentation: Accurately record production data in Epicor, machine settings, and maintenance activities to maintain production records and assist in process improvement efforts.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members, including supervisors, fabricators, and quality control personnel, to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to project timelines.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously seek opportunities to improve machining processes, reduce cycle times, and enhance overall efficiency while maintaining high‑quality standards.
  • Read, comprehend, and execute processes and procedures according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) which are necessary to properly operate the equipment and manufacture the product.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and operate hand tools necessary to set‑up, take apart, troubleshoot, and operate equipment. Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting components to ensure proper functioning and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Skilled in the use of measuring tools and weld quality inspection.
  • Experienced with welding codes and standards e.g., AWS, ASME).
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Advanced proficiency in TIG and MIG welding techniques on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum, to produce high‑quality welds with minimal defects.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and train welders on welding symbols, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with different grades and types of aluminum and their corresponding welding requirements.
  • High understanding of shop safety procedures and PPE usage.
  • Able to follow instructions and work under supervision.
  • Five plus years of experience welding in a manufacturing, structural or pipefitting environment.
  • Certified Welder through AWS/ASME or an equivalent program.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors.
  • Weld small and large components such as mild steel tubing, aluminum, and stainless steel.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend plant directives written in English.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of a basic welding course or vocational training program in welding.
  • Perform simple mathematics to comprehend and interpret process sheets, SOP manuals, tally sheets, etc. and to keep accurate account of materials used during manufacturing process including scrap amounts.
  • Physical strength is sufficient to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on an intermittent basis.
