Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands is seeking a MIG welder for our Atwater, CA facility. The role involves welding structural steel components in a fast-paced production environment, with emphasis on bead quality, accuracy, and safety.

Training in welding procedures and equipment operation is provided. The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of welding experience or a valid welding certification, the ability to read blueprints, and willingness to obtain applicable certifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year welding experience in production or valid welding certification.
• Ability to read blueprints/drawings.
• Willingness to obtain/maintain CWB and AWS welding certifications.

Responsibilities

• Follow welding procedures and ensure bead quality.
• Coordinate welder settings, gun speed, and gas flow.
• Read tapes and blueprints to shop standards.
• Adjust welding technique as needed for bead shape and penetrations.
• Operate forklift/overhead crane as required.
• Maintain safety and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Job Details

Base Pay: $23.00 - $25.75 per hour

Shift: Monday - Friday - 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, hours may vary depending on operations

Duties and Responsibilities

This position engages in the full scope of MIG weld processes on a variety of structural steel including (but not limited to) rigid frame columns, rafters, pipe, beam canopy rafters, small parts, clips, and special assemblies. Welded parts may include thin gauge, painted, or galvanized material. The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of welding techniques and have a high attention to detail in a fast-paced production environment.

• Knows and understands all safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and about a manufacturing environment
• Responsible for coordination of welder settings, gun speed/travel and gas flow with observed condition of bead
• Ability to read a tape measure and blue prints to shop standard
• Ability to decide when adjustment or gun manipulation needs to be altered
• Ability to decide how much and what repairs to make for pin holes and burn through caused by auto welder
• Ability to train and teach proper welding procedures in accordance with manufacturing job procedures
• Ability to operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment
• Responsible for holding bead to specified shape, size and penetrations while maintain the quality of the product
• Responsible for keeping numerical and alphabetical sequences correct
• Maintains continuous improvement practices in work area
• While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear

Qualifications

• A minimum of one (1) year experience welding in a production environment or valid welding certification
• Ability to read blueprints and drawings
• Ability to obtain and maintain CWB and AWS welding certification in accordance with Cornerstone Building Brands welding procedures
• Experience with forklift and/or overhead craneoperation a plus
• Comfort and familiarity with power hand tools
• Willingness to train, certify, and operate forklift and overhead crane
• Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
• General mathematical knowledge and proficiency with basic measuring instruments
