North American Construction Services, Ltd. in Pinson/Birmingham, AL is hiring a full-time Welder/Fitter to join our team. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, assembling parts by tack welding or bolting, and performing precise fit-up with FCAW welding.

Requirements include at least five years of structural plate fitting experience, ability to interpret fabrication drawings, and passing blueprint and 3G FCAW welding tests. Strong layout and measurement skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of structural plate fitting experience.
• Experience in heavy manufacturing environments.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Strong layout, measuring, and mathematical skills.
• Proficient in 3G Vertical Groove Welding using FCAW process.
• Must pass a Blueprint Reading Test as part of pre-employment.
• Must pass a 3G FCAW Welding Test as part of pre-employment.
• Ability to produce welds meeting quality and inspection standards.

Responsibilities

• Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications using rulers and measuring devices.
• Read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
• Assemble parts via tack welding or bolting.
• Perform mathematical calculations including trigonometry for layouts.
• Add bracing for welding as necessary.
• Complete travelers and document signing/dating.
• Lay out lines and ensure inspection prior to fitting.
• Check dimensions and remove contaminants prior to fitting.
• Maintain fit-up tolerances not exceeding 1/32" gap or 1/16" out of tolerance without supervisor approval.
• Clean weld marks and tack welds before QC inspection.
• Mark weld symbols and skip welds within designated weld zones.

At Fives, we all have a part to play in achieving our common mission. Your role will be:

• Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications using squares, levels, measuring tapes, and other measuring devices.
• Read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
• Assemble parts via tack welding or bolting.
• Perform mathematical calculations as needed, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and trigonometry involving whole numbers and fractions.
• Add bracing for welding as necessary.
• Complete travelers, including signing and dating all required documentation.
• Lay out all required lines and ensure they are inspected prior to fitting. All center lines on round pipes and cylinders must be center punched before fitting begins.
• Check all dimensions on parts and remove slag, dirt, rust, oil, and other contaminants prior to fitting.
• Maintain fit-up tolerances not exceeding 1/32\" gap and/or 1/16\" out of tolerance without supervisor approval.
• Clean all dog marks and broken tack welds from members prior to Quality Control inspection.
• Mark all weld symbols on assemblies and lay out all skip welds while only tack welding within designated weld zones.

• Minimum of five (5) years of structural plate fitting experience.
• Previous experience in heavy manufacturing environments.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Strong layout, measuring, and mathematical skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in 3G Vertical Groove Welding using the Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW)process.
• Must successfully pass a Blueprint Reading Test as part of the pre-employment qualification process.
• Must successfully pass a 3G FCAW Welding Test as part of the pre-employment qualification process.
• Ability to produce welds that meet applicable quality and inspection standards.
