Job description

About the Role:

The Fabricator/Welder, also commonly searched as Welder Fabricator, MIG Welder, Structural Welder, Metal Fabricator, and Production Welder, performs fitting, welding, cutting, layout, and fabrication work within an industrial manufacturing environment in the Birmingham, Alabama area. This position reads fabrication drawings, prepares materials, assembles components, and produces welded structures and fabricated parts that meet dimensional and quality requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Fit, fabricate, assemble, and weld metal components according to drawings, specifications, dimensions, and production requirements.
  • Perform MIG, flux-core, stick, or other applicable welding processes while maintaining required weld quality and penetration.
  • Read and interpret production drawings, fabrication prints, welding symbols, dimensions, and assembly specifications.
  • Measure, mark, cut, bevel, grind, prepare, and position metal materials before welding and assembly.
  • Use jigs, fixtures, clamps, hand tools, power tools, plasma cutting equipment, torches, and fabrication equipment safely.
  • Inspect completed welds and fabricated assemblies for dimensions, alignment, weld quality, defects, and conformance to specifications.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as overhead cranes or forklifts when trained and authorized.
  • Maintain welding equipment, fabrication tools, work areas, and consumable materials.
  • Follow welding safety, hot-work procedures, PPE requirements, material handling practices, and facility safety standards.
Qualifications:
  • Previous welding, metal fabrication, structural fabrication, or industrial manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with one or more production welding processes such as MIG, FCAW, or SMAW.
  • Ability to read fabrication drawings, blueprints, measurements, and welding symbols.
  • Ability to use grinders, torches, saws, plasma cutters, measuring tools, and standard fabrication equipment.
  • Ability to fit and position components accurately before welding and verify finished dimensions.
  • Knowledge of welding safety, hot-work procedures, PPE, and safe material handling practices.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding fabrication work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Welding certificate, vocational training, apprenticeship, or equivalent formal technical education.
  • AWS welding certification or ability to pass an applicable weld test.
  • Experience with heavy plate, structural steel, industrial equipment, or production fabrication.
  • Forklift, overhead crane, rigging, plasma cutting, or torch-cutting experience.
