Description

The welder is responsible for welding structural metal products using various equipment including welders, shears, grinders, ironworker, or plasma cutters, and for the maintenance of welding equipment.

Requirements
  1. Read blueprints & drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout for a specific job.
  2. Prepare work via the use of grinders, calipers, rulers, and clamp pieces.
  3. Operate manual and automated welding units in various positions (vertical, horizontal, etc.) according to job requirements.
  4. Fabricate new or replacement parts by reading blueprints and use of measuring devices.
  5. Maintain length of the arc and speed of movement to form a specified depth of fusion and bead.
  6. Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
  7. Grind or clean weld joint of workpiece.
  8. Repair improperly welded pieces and fill holes.
  9. Tack assemblies together.
  10. Able to wear specialized protective or safety equipment.
  11. Assemble component parts using hand and small power tools.
  12. Maintain equipment and change hoses, fittings, air valves, suspension parts, etc. when required.
  13. Ensure efficient and timely processing of various job orders by organizing work to be performed according to complexity, materials used, anticipated completion time, etc.
  14. Account for time and work completed via online computer terminal data collection system.
  15. Meet established standards for productivity and quality. Confer with the supervisor when problems occur that impact expected levels of performance.
  16. Comply with plant safety procedures to ensure a safe environment.

Education:

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.)
  2. Welding certificate highly preferred.

Experience and Background:

  1. 2 - 4 years of Steel & Aluminum Experience
  2. Wire Feed welding, Fabrication with Welding & Layout
  3. Mechanical with Hydraulics (preferred)
  4. Comfortable using power tools, pneumatic wrenches, grinder; etc.
  5. Demonstrate competency in basic shop math.
  6. Ability to read and understand blueprints and other shop drawings.
  7. Flexible and responsive, with a strong teamwork orientation.
  8. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Desire to learn new skills and improve technical knowledge.
  10. Commitment to quality and accuracy of work performed and continuous improvement.
  11. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  12. Possess the ability to drive for results, hold self-accountable, and continuously improve.

Physical Requirements

The majority of the job function is performed in a manufacturing environment requiring high safety precautions.
