Come join the team at United Steel, New England's largest fabricator and erector of structural steel and miscellaneous metals!

United Steel is currently seeking Welders with 2-3 years of welding experience. This position involves safely welding metal components such as miscellaneous metals, stairs, and rails using electric arc-welding equipment. The role includes the following duties:

1. Performing welding operations to support production needs.
2. Detecting and reporting potential issues to the supervisor.
3. Obtaining specified electrodes and preparing welding equipment.
4. Setting up welding parameters as per specifications.
5. Starting power supplies and forming arcs to melt and deposit metal.
6. Guiding electrodes or guns along weld lines to achieve specified weld quality.
7. Welding in flat and horizontal positions.
8. Inspecting welds for quality and specifications.
9. Applying filler rods manually.
10. Cleaning and preparing workpieces.
11. Repairing broken or cracked parts and filling holes.
12. Preparing surfaces for welding.
13. Chipping off excess weld material and spatter.
14. Preheating workpieces as needed.
15. Positioning and clamping workpieces.
16. Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
17. Performing preventative maintenance on equipment.
18. Passing the 2G unlimited weld test.
19. Familiarity with machine functions and willingness to receive supervision.
20. Performing other duties as required.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma, GED, or Vocational School.
2. 2-3 years of welding experience or relevant technical schooling.
3. Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding.
4. Basic shop math, reading, writing, mechanical skills, and ability to interpret work instructions.
5. Strong attention to detail, multitasking ability, and good communication skills.

Working Conditions

The role involves exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration. The company provides controls, PPE, and training to mitigate these exposures.
