HII Elevator Support Unit (ESU) teams provide expert maintenance and repairs on aircraft carriers in support of the ESU contract. The selected Welder will support ESU, working closely with skilled trades teams, onboard ships and shore-based facilities using various welding processes, mechanical techniques, and related duties to repair, remove, install, and upgrade industrial equipment, assisting with repairs, alterations, and installations. This is a full‑time position located in Chesapeake, VA.
Selected candidate will be required to travel to local shipyards and military bases and work performed on all ships. When assigned to travel, Per Diem is provided based on location. Travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company.
Candidate must be able to demonstrate welding ability on needed processes through qualification testing and pass with a satisfactory grade from our Quality Assurance Team within the first four weeks from start date for continued employment.
Complete all work in accordance with OEM specifications, NAVSEA Standard Items, and applicable safety requirements.
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
