Job summary

SPX is seeking a Welder to perform welding operations assembling and securing sheet metal for electrical and industrial equipment, according to engineering drawings and specifications.

You will lay out parts, weld with TIG, MIG, or spot methods, and finish with grinders or sanders. Training for ASME certification may be provided, with attention to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 months related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to correctly read a tape measure.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of TIG, MIG, and spot welding equipment and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Weld or tack weld metal parts using TIG, MIG, or spot welding equipment.

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Welder, you will perform welding operations to assemble and secure sheet metal for electrical and industrial equipment, according to engineering drawings and specifications.

Job Responsibilities

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
  • Welds or tack welds metal parts together, using TIG welding, MIG welding, or spot welding equipment.
  • Removes rough spots from workpiece, using grinder, sander, or saw.
  • May be trained and tested to be ASME certified.
Qualifications

Required Experience

  • One to three months related experience and/or training
  • Ability to correctly read a tape measure.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of TIG welding, MIG welding, and spot welding equipment and techniques.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • TIG welding, MIG welding, and stick welding certification
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
