Job summary

Steffes is seeking a Welder I to ensure high quality welds and operate multiple welding tools including wire welders, plasma arc, and cutting torches. The role requires reading blueprints and following standard work and training guides for each process.

You will collaborate with team members to meet customer specifications, maintain safety standards, and potentially operate basic robotics for loading/unloading parts.

Responsibilities

  • Operate welding tools (wire welder, plasma arc, cutting torch) and hand tools.
  • Read drawings, blueprints, and heat numbers to ensure correct welds.
  • Follow standard work, training guides, weld procedures and acceptance criteria to meet customer requirements.
  • May operate/program basic robot functions: loading/unloading parts, starting/stopping robot, TPMs, notify supervisor of out-of-tolerance welds.
  • Perform basic problem solving and decision making.
  • Follow build boards and Kanban system requirements.
  • Report inconsistencies or defects in material, product, or equipment.
  • Make adjustments to fab parts to ensure proper alignment.
  • External Robot Operation/Programming Certification may be obtained.
  • Maintain a collaborative, safe, and positive work atmosphere with customers and teammates.
  • Assist Steffes in achieving Strategic, Quality and Safety objectives.
  • Position may require overtime and additional responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Day Shift Hours - 6:00a - 4:30p Monday - Thursday * Overtime possible fridays due to production needs


Position Summary:

This position is responsible for ensuring high quality welds. Operates a wire welder, plasma arc, and cutting torch. Must be able to read blueprints and follow standard work and training guides provided for each process or product.


Key Responsibilities:


  • 1. Able to operate various types of welding tools and various hand tools. (Including die grinders, angle grinders, etc.)

  • 2. Able to read drawings, blueprints, and heat numbers, if applicable.

  • 3. Follow and understand standard work, training guides, weld procedures, and acceptance criteria to meet customer requirements.

  • 4. May be responsible for basic robot operation, where applicable. This could include loading and unloading parts, starting and stopping robot, daily device TPM, daily operator TPMs, and to notify lead or supervisor if any welds are not within tolerance.

  • 5. Basic problem solving and decision making.

  • 6. Follow and understand build boards and Kanban system requirements.

  • 7. Report inconsistencies and/or defects in material, product, or equipment.

  • 8. Able to make adjustments to various fab parts to allow proper alignment.

  • 9. External Robot Operation/Programming Certification may be obtained based on specific criteria.

  • 10. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating collaboratively with customers, suppliers, co workers, and management.

  • 11. Helps company meet its Strategic, Quality and Safety objectives.

  • 12. Position may require additional responsibility and ability to work overtime hours.

  • 13. Other duties may be assigned.


Functional & Cognitive Requirements:


  • This position requires walking, sitting or standing to a significant degree.

  • Must have the ability to lift 70 pounds from floor to waist, carry 50 pounds, and push and/or pull up to 100 pounds.

  • Must have the ability to climb ladders and/or stairs.

  • Stooping, crouching, kneeling and bending.

  • Handling, feeling, and gripping would be required for some activities.

  • Visual acuity is required to inspect work completed.

  • This role may be subject to internal and external environmental conditions.

  • Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota.

Minimum Competencies Total Score: 23-29
