Job summary

StarChem LLC is seeking a Maintenance Technician – Welder/Pipefitter to perform high-quality welding, fabrication, and repair work in support of plant operations. You will work with Maintenance Supervisors and Production teams to ensure equipment reliability and safe mechanical systems across the facility.

The role requires MIG, TIG, and stick welding on various metals, fabrication of tanks and piping, and adherence to drawings and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• 2+ years welding and pipefitting in industrial or maintenance settings.
• Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding; able to weld butt and socket joints.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, and other metals used in chemical processing equipment.
• Fabricate, modify, and repair tanks, piping, structural supports, platforms, and other plant components.
• Follow drawings, weld procedures, and specifications to complete work safely and accurately.
• Assist with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems including pumps, valves, and piping assemblies.
• Inspect welds and components for quality and safety compliance with industry standards.
• Collaborate with Engineering on project planning, material needs, and scope of work.
• Safely operate cutting torches, grinders, saws, and fabrication tools.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and adhere to PPE and chemical handling procedures.
• Participate in preventive maintenance and small capital projects as assigned.

Job Title: Maintenance Technician – Welder/Pipefitter

Position Summary

The Welder/pipefitter is responsible for performing high-quality welding, fabrication, and metal repair work to support plant operations. This role works closely with the Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Technicians, and Production teams to ensure equipment reliability, assist with project installations, and maintain safe mechanical systems across the facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, and other metals commonly used in chemical processing equipment.


• Fabricate, modify, and repair tanks, piping, structural supports, platforms, and other plant components.


• Follow detailed drawings, weld procedures, and engineering specifications to complete work safely and accurately.


• Assist with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, and piping assemblies.


• Conduct inspections of welds, equipment, and fabricated components to ensure quality and compliance with safety and industry standards.


• Collaborate with the Engineering Manager on project planning, material needs, and scope of work.


• Safely operate cutting torches, grinders, saws, and other fabrication tools.


• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while adhering to all plant safety policies, including PPE requirements and chemical handling procedures.


• Participate in preventive maintenance activities and support small capital projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.


• 2+ years of welding and pipefitting experience in industrial, manufacturing, or maintenance environments (chemical industry experience a plus).


• Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding techniques as well as both butt weld and socket weld joints.


• Ability to follow conceptual drawings to pull required measurements and calculate all fitting take-outs and dimensions.


• Knowledge of pipefitting and metal fabrication practices.


• Familiarity with safety standards in industrial or chemical environments (OSHA, hot-work permits, LOTO, etc.).


• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.


• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying plant conditions (heat, confined spaces, elevated platforms).
