Job summary

National Park Service is seeking a Welder at the Historic Preservation Training Center to perform hands-on preservation and restoration work on bronze statues, monuments, historic fences and plaques. Job description

Summary

You will serve as a Welder for the National Park Service at the Historic Preservation Training Center performing hands‑on preservation and restoration work. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 28 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Salary Range: $34.71 (step 1) to $40.55 (step 5)

Major Duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Welding various metals of similar and dissimilar properties using oxy/acetylene and/or electric welders, Tungsten Inert Gas Systems (T.I.G.) Shield Metal Arc Welding (S.M.A.W.). Performing hands‑on preservation/restoration work utilizing skills such as welding, pattern making, rubber mold making, masonry, sandblasting, painting, metal patina processes, machining, forging, heaving equipment operator, carpentry, and rigging to repair bronze statuary, monuments, historic fences and plaques. Participating in all phases of monument preservation and restoration by performing various carpentry and masonry skills.
