GFL - Sewer Technologies Division in Durham, NC is seeking a skilled Welder to join our team.   • Experience: 2+ years welding/fabrication experience, or a formal certification in basic welding skills.
  • Tools: Ability to provide basic personal hand tools and safety gear (e.g., welding helmet/shield, standard hand wrenches).

Responsibilities

  • Fabrication & Repair: Operate welding equipment to fabricate and repair equipment.
  • Surface Prep & Paint: Prep repaired equipment for painting and apply finishes as needed.
  • Maintenance & Inventory: Maintain service logs, monitor inventories, inspect hand tools.
  • Shop & Equipment Care: Keep work area and vehicles clean, organized, and safe.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with shop technicians and assist with general repair duties.
  • Safety First: Adhere to regulations and participate in branch safety initiatives.

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled, safety-focused Welder to join our team! In this role, you will safely perform metalworking activities—including layout, welding, cutting, fabricating, grinding, and painting—for structural and non-structural applications. You’ll play a critical part in maintaining, repairing, and customizing our solid waste handling equipment and fleet, ensuring our operations run smoothly every single day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabrication & Repair: Operate specified welding equipment to fabricate and perform structural repairs on new and used solid waste handling equipment.
  • Surface Prep & Paint: Prep repaired equipment for painting and apply finishes as needed.
  • Maintenance & Inventory: Maintain accurate service logs, monitor supply inventories, and inspect assigned hand tools to ensure everything is in top working order.
  • Shop & Equipment Care: Keep your work area, assigned shop space, and mobile service vehicles clean, organized, and safe.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with other shop technicians and assist with general repair duties when needed.
  • Safety First: Adhere to all federal, state/provincial, and local regulations, participate in branch safety
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience: 2+ years of welding/fabrication experience, or a formal certification in basic welding skills.
  • Tools: Ability to provide basic personal hand tools and safety gear (e.g., welding helmet/shield, standard hand wrenches).
  • Licensing: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly (and occasionally up to 100 lbs), stand/kneel/bend for extended periods, and work safely in shop conditions, tight spaces, or varied weather environments.
