Job summary

Novolex is seeking a Welder in Cedar Rapids for a 7:00 am–3:30 pm shift, Monday–Friday, with climate-controlled conditions. The role involves welding stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum using TIG/MIG processes, reading blueprints, and fabricating parts per work orders.

In addition to welding, the job includes equipment maintenance, labeling, and following safety procedures. Incentives are provided with pay steps: Min $28.94, 3 months $29.35, 6 months $29.87, 9 months $30.36, and 12

Qualifications

• Wamiliarization with TIG/MIG welding techniques per layouts and blueprints.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, layouts and work orders.
• Safe operation of welding equipment and hand tools.
• Record and label completed work orders and maintain labeling.

Responsibilities

• Welds stainless steel, carbon steel and/or aluminum components using TIG/MIG.
• Repairs damaged plant equipment by welding or bonding parts.

Job Details include: welding various grades of stainless steel, carbon steel and/or aluminum components together to fabricate parts and products using TIG/MIG welding techniques according to layouts, blueprints and/or work orders. Repairs damaged plant equipment by welding or bonding broken parts together.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Safe, knowledgeable operation of high voltage heliarc welders, wire welders and spot welders.
• Interpretation and understanding of blueprints, work orders, layouts and/or schematic diagrams identifying materials to be bonded together and dimensions of desired product.
• Positioning of clamps/fixtures holding together components of fabricated products prior to welding.
• Selection of proper raw materials and adjustment of welding equipment to ensure proper and solid bonding of components.
• Safe operation of overhead hoists to move large components in work area.
• Utilization of variety of hand tools including hammers, screw drivers, chisels, punches, clamps, tape measures, squaring devices, levels and other tools as needed.
• Recording and labeling of completed work orders with attachment of labels routing products to next work area.
• Reading, writing and operation of a computer terminal.
• Follow written and oral instructions.
• Informing supervisory personnel and/or co-workers of progress and problems realized while performing duties.

PREFERRED JOB FUNCTIONS

• Inspecting components, materials and/or repaired equipment at each step of the welding process.
• Knowledge of minor equipment maintenance and occasional repair of industrial tools.
• Removing dust, dirt and other hazardous materials from work areas to ensure safe working conditions.
• Occasional pushing and pulling of hand carts and lifts with weights exceeding 150 lbs. with help as needed.
• Communicate verbally with co-workers.
• Crawl inside very small work areas and perform welding duties while lying on back on an occasional basis.
