Job summary

Activar, Inc. seeks a skilled welder to lay out, fit and weld fabricated components into sturdy frames and cabinets. You will read blueprints, select equipment, and apply MIG and TIG welding with attention to geometry, tolerances, and safety.

You must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds, thrive in a fast-paced setting, and maintain a clean, organized workspace. The role includes process improvements and strict adherence to company standards.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent of high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two years welding experience with MIG & TIG preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Strong attention to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and weld cabinets, frames and related parts per specs.
  • May bolt and rivet components as needed.
  • Weld thin metal structures and large frame assemblies.
  • Repair products by dismantling and reworking with tools.
  • Move finished work to the next production stage.
  • Suggest improvements to methods and equipment for quality gains.
  • Report safety or quality issues to supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workstation and adhere to policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job description

This position is responsible for lying out, fitting, and welding fabricated components to assemble structural forms, such as frames or cabinets according to job specifications. This position selects equipment, plans layout, assembly, welds, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assemble and weld cabinets, roof hatches, louvers, frames, tops and bottoms per job specifications.
  • May assemble parts by bolting and riveting
  • Assemble thin metal structures and large frame structures by use of a welder.
  • May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools.
  • Move assembled product to next production area in order to complete finished product per job specification.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Report immediately to supervisor/lead/manager any and all problems, which may affect safety, equipment, tooling, and/or quality.
  • Maintain full working knowledge of all processes.
  • Ensure a clean and organized work environment.
  • Adhere to all company standards and policies.
  • Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to operate machines including, but not limited to bar code reader, computer terminal, other electronic devices, and forklift.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and the capacity to learn new systems.

  • Basic ability to understand blue prints, schematics, and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Skill in performing accurate arithmetic functions involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; using decimals, percentages, fractions, and ratios.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Equivalent of high school diploma or G.E.D. certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of welding experience with both M.I.G. & T.I.G. welders preferred

The employee may be required to work with hazardous materials. The employee may be exposed to hot surfaces, hot air, electrical hazards, and flames. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works with moving machinery and occasionally in outside weather.
