Job summary

PALA Interstate, LLC is seeking a certified welder to perform Stick and TIG welding in multiple positions on carbon and stainless piping in an industrial environment. The welder must read and interpret job specs, plans and blueprints and be able to work from elevated platforms, maintaining a clean, safe workspace.

Minimum four years’ experience as a certified welder (or two years plus ABC training) and experience with stick and TIG pipe welding on carbon and stainless steel are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four years’ experience as a certified welder, or two years’ experience as Certified Welder plus two years’ ABC or equivalent training.
  • Experience in stick and TIG pipe welding.
  • Experience welding carbon, stainless steel and various alloys.
  • Must pass welding test as required by the job site.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and studies layout, blueprints, diagram, work order and welding procedures to determine work to be done.
  • Plans work in logical sequence and determines tools/equipment needed.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together.
  • Bolts, clamps and tack welds parts to secure in position for welding.
  • Obtains electrode and inserts into holder; adjusts welding parameters as specified.
  • Start power supply and strike arc to weld and form specified fusion.

Position Description

PALA Interstate, LLC

Summary

Stick and Tig welding in multiple positions on various size piping (carbon and stainless) in an industrial environment. Welder must be able to read, study and interpret job specifications, plans and blue prints; able to climb and work from elevated work platforms; must have industrial welding experience; required to maintain clean and safe work environment.

Essential Functions
  • Reads and studies layout, blueprints, diagram, work order and welding procedures to determine work to be done. May also receive oral instructions.
  • Plans work in logical sequence and determines tools/equipment needed.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together.
  • Bolts, clamps and tack welds parts to secure in position for welding.
  • Obtains specified electrode and inserts into portable holder or threads electrode wire through portable welding gun.
  • Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope and pulse as specified.
  • Start power supply to produce electric current.
  • Strikes arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and joint edges.
  • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead. This is judged by color of metal, sound of weld and size of molten puddle.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions and examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Performs Stick(SMAW), TIG(GATW), and Flux Core Welding
  • Manually applies filler rod to supply weld metal.
  • Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece using wire brush, grinder or chemical bath.
  • Chips off excess weld, slag, spatter.
  • Preheats work piece using torch or heating furnace.
  • Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping and reassembling parts.
Position Requirements
Required Education and Experience:
  • Minimum four years’ experience as a certified welder, or Two (2) years’ experience as Certified Welder plus 2 years’ ABC or equivalent training.
  • Experienced in stick and tig pipe welding.
  • Experienced in welding carbon, stainless steel and various alloys.
  • Must pass required welding test as required by the specific job site.
Preferred Education And Experience
  • High School or GED preferred but not required.
  • Trade School program preferred but not required.
