Job summary

Keel in Hollywood, SC, seeks a Weld Trainer I to administer basic weld testing, coach trainees, and assist daily operations in the Weld Training School. You will work under defined processes, promoting safety and quality standards while documenting outcomes.

The role requires foundational welding knowledge, familiarity with FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, and the ability to communicate clearly. An in-house VT Level II track is offered for career growth.

Qualifications

  • Welding knowledge with training experience.
  • ASNT TC1-A VT LEVEL II via in-house program (8–12 months).
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • English and metric measurement familiarity preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer basic weld testing for candidates and employees under defined processes.
  • Provide hands-on training support for welding trainees on paperwork and techniques.
  • Support daily Weld Training School operations.
  • Follow safety policies and 5S workspace standards.
  • Demonstrate proper use of measuring tools (tape, calipers, micrometers).
  • Record test data accurately and maintain documentation.
  • Identify potential manufacturing or quality issues and elevate them.

Your Mission

The Weld Trainer I supports the Weld Training School by administering basic weld testing, providing hands-on coaching to trainees, and assisting with daily training operations. This role focuses on foundational welding instruction, accurate documentation, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Explore The Depth Of The Role
  • Administer basic weld testing for pre-hire candidates and employees under defined processes and supervision.
  • Provide verbal and hands-on training support for welding trainees on paperwork, documentation, and introductory welding techniques.
  • Support general operational tasks within the Weld Training School.
  • Follow and promote corporate safety policies and maintain a clean and organized workspace following 5S standards.
  • Demonstrate proper use of common measuring tools (tape measures, scales, rulers, calipers, micrometers).
  • Assist in identifying potential manufacturing or quality issues and elevate them appropriately.
  • Record test data accurately and maintain required documentation.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, punctuality, initiative, and dependable work habits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Mission Readiness:
  • Basic proficiency in welding processes such as FCAW, GMAW (Spray and Pulsed), SMAW, and introductory GTAW.
  • Shall acquire Keel’s ASNT TC1-A VT LEVEL II. This is an in-house OJT course and will take approximately 8 months to a year with proper supervision.
  • Prefer experience with basic computer programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Education or training experience is sufficient to understand principles of welder training and testing.
  • Understand English and Metric measurement systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of welding symbols and basic weld testing techniques.
  • Foundational understanding of assembly, fabrication, or construction.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written formats.
Travel Requirements
  • Rare but may occur
Physical Requirements
  • May be required to stand, walk, sit, reach/pull/push with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel regularly.
  • May lift or carry 50lbs. Weights exceeding 50lbs will require mechanical means to maneuver.
