Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing is seeking a Weld Maintenance Mechanic for our Spartanburg, SC plant. You will install, repair, and inspect production machinery and tools, and build or rebuild equipment as needed to support manufacturing needs.

The role requires robotics familiarity, welding proficiency, and strong mechanical/electrical troubleshooting skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and safety in a 2nd shift, Mon-Fri schedule.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at a functional level.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Minimum of five years of machine repair experience.
  • Experience in mechanical, electrical, pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of robotics controls and processes.
  • Commitment to high standards of performance and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, install, and repair production machinery and tools in manufacturing and tool room.
  • Build and rebuild equipment to meet manufacturing needs.
  • Troubleshoot welding equipment and robotic systems; replace faulty components.
  • Provide coaching and direction to Weld Maintenance Mechanics Level I.
  • Participate in continuous improvement to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and update maintenance schedules as needed.
  • Understand shim logs and assist with shim adjustments under supervision.

In addition, build and re-build equipment for various manufacturing needsWhat You'll Do:Ability to perform all tasks as required for a Weld Maintenance Mechanic IMentor and follow specified maintenance and repair procedures to install, maintain, and repair production machinery and toolsElectrically troubleshoot issues using a meterIntermediate level mechanical troubleshooting skillset with robotics and welding equipment (troubleshoot / repair components, replace faulty components /equipment, etc.)Intermediate robotic experience (robot movements, navigate/troubleshoot utilizing teach pendant, edit/modify programs via teach pendant)Intermediate welding knowledge and processes (MIG, Spot, Stud, etc.)Use the following equipment safely: Intermediate LevelHand ToolsHand and Surface GrindersTorchesHydraulic JackWeldersScissor LiftBoom liftForkliftDrill PressesIntermediate troubleshooting of both welding equipment and systemsIntermediate knowledge/troubleshooting of lubrication processes (correct type, function, when to use, etc)Provide coaching and direction to Weld Maintenance Mechanics Level IProactively participate in continuous improvement efforts and drive process, tooling, and equipment enhancements that will improve production efficiency and product qualityPerform preventative maintenance and provide input on updates to preventative maintenance schedulesBasic understanding of shims (understand shim logs, nominal shim count) and make shim adjustments (with the guidance of a Weld Maintenance Mechanic level III or Manufacturing Engineer)When and Where:This will be a 2nd Shift / 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM M-F position located at our Plant in Spartanburg, SC.Occasionally, this may require you to arrive early, stay late, or work on weekends, outside of our regular hours, to ensure we successfully meet customer needs, deadlines, or urgent requests.What You Need to Have:High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED)Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at a level sufficient to safely and effectively perform job duties, including following work instructions, safety procedures, and company communications.Proficient with Microsoft Applications (e.g. word, excel, outlook, etc).Minimum of five (5) years of Machine Repair experienceMechanical, Electrical, Pneumatics, and Hydraulics experienceIntermediate Knowledge of relevant robotic controls and processesHas high standards of performance for self.
