Job summary

Douglas Dynamics is seeking a Weld Lead to join our Milwaukee area team. This leadership role supports customers and the business by guiding weld operations, ensuring quality weldments, and maintaining safety standards on the shop floor.

You will set up and operate welding machines, coach a welding team, and participate in 6S activities to sustain a clean, efficient environment while helping meet production goals and deliver high-quality products.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Strong basic math skills and ability to read blueprints are required.
• Vision, near and distance, color, peripheral and depth perception are required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the welding team and assist the supervisor in meeting SQDC goals.
• Set up, operate, and adjust welding machines to produce quality weldments and blades.
• Perform daily 6S activities and maintain safety and housekeeping standards.
• Collaborate with teammates across the organization to deliver results that matter for customers.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a Weld Lead to join our team and help drive our continued success. This role plays an important part in supporting our customers, strengthening our business, and contributing to the long-term growth of Douglas Dynamics.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

As a lead person, this individual must possess leadership skills and have problem solving ability. The lead person will assist the supervisor in meeting SQDC goals as well as welder's responsibilities. Welder performs set-up and welding on a variety of weldments and structures following written “job instructions” or standardized methods and procedures utilizing fixtures and jigs. Welder Set up, operate, adjust, and regulate welding machines to produce high quality weldments and blades for the company’s lines of commercial snow and ice control products. Welder actively participates in a team environment. Welder perform designated maintenance functions, assumes ownership for quality of weldments, participates in training, performs daily 6S activities, and maintains safety standards.

In this role, you will leverage your skills, experience, and perspective to make a meaningful impact. You’ll collaborate with teammates across the organization, contribute ideas, and help deliver results that matter for our customers and our business.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

• Follow Douglas Dynamics’ rules regarding work and conduct.
• Willingness to participate and train in the DDMS program.
• Meeting production plan and standards.
• Maintains good housekeeping and 6S.
• Adheres to all health and safety rules.
• Scrap reduction and quality control.
• Ability to work within a group to achieve team goals.
• Willingness to work overtime as necessary.
• Timely predictive maintenance.
• Strong communication skills.
• Execute other duties as assigned.

WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Strong basic math skills and ability to read blueprints.
• Vision; near, distance, color, peripheral and depth perception.
• Able to stand and walk.
• Able to reach above shoulders and outward.
• Able to bend, squat, and crawl.
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with good body mechanics.
• Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment: eyewear, hearing protection, respirator, and steeled toed boots with metatarsals.

Desired Skills:

• Welding Technology Degree or Welding Technical Diploma.
• Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment.
• Robotic welding experience
• MDI board experience
