Job summary

AUTOKINITON is seeking a Weld Engineer for our Chicago, IL plant to lead welding process development and implementation. You will specify welding equipment, consumables, robotic systems, and related components to ensure high-quality welds and efficient processes.

The role requires MIG and robotic welding experience, electrical/controls knowledge, and collaboration with the QA and engineering teams to design methods, support maintenance, and drive safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in weld/robotics engineering; CWI or CWE.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in manual and automated welding.
  • Knowledge of MIG welding, robotic welding, and NEC/OSHA safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Specify welding equipment, consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems, and related components for welding.
  • Develop preventative maintenance procedures for welding equipment including robotic systems.
  • Design, develop and test welding methods, materials, processes and results.
  • Assist QA to maintain weld integrity and resolve welding system issues.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and team problem solving (8D reports).

Weld Engineer

To help us drive excellence, you’ll get to:
  • Specify welding equipment, welding consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems, and any related components associated with the welding process.
  • Recommend and develop preventative maintenance procedures for all plant welding equipment including robotic systems. Evaluate processes and procedures to maintain or improve weld parameters and weld efficiency.
  • Design, develop and test welding methods, materials, processes, and results.
  • Assist Quality Assurance department in maintaining weld integrity. Interface with manufacturing and maintenance to resolve welding and welding system issues.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and team problem solving activities (ex. 8D reports, department meetings, etc.).

This full-time, salary, role is a part of our Engineering Team and reports to the Engineering Manager.

Required experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in weld/robotics engineering or equivalent, CWI, CWE.

  • Minimum three (3) years of related technical, hands-on experience in manual and automated welding or joining processes.
  • Working knowledge of MIG welding processes
  • Knowledge in robotic welding and programming, and material handling applications.
  • Understanding of electrical/controls circuitry and schematics.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and weld drawings –
  • Knowledge of NEC, OSHA and machine safety, electrical safety, robotic safety, and machine guarding components.
  • Specific knowledge of the following:
    • Weld power source, wire feeder, torch, and reamer.
    • Plasma cutting, grinding and rework applications.
    • Weld shielding gas technologies.
    • Electrical enclosures and power requirements for welding.
    • Gas metal arc and resistance spot welding.
  • Computer literacy and good knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
