Job description

Job Duties

Including, but not limited to:

1. Weigh vehicles full and empty to record purchases.
2. Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
3. Handle paperwork associated with conducting business, delivery transactions, and government-required documentation.
4. Communicate with dispatch and truck drivers to determine schedules and volumes.
5. Communicate with customers when they bring objectionable materials.
6. Work with customers to satisfy their needs and assist them when problems arise.
7. Work with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure swift work when materials arrive.
8. Process and report end of day totals.
9. Ascend and descend staircases for inspections of loads.
10. Adhere to specific dress code for the position (no restrictive or excessively loose clothing or accessories that could pose a safety hazard).
11. Clean up work area at the end of shift.
12. Keep work areas neat and orderly.
13. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions.
14. Organize materials to have more effective use of space.
15. Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
16. Inspect to ensure cleanup is completed.
17. Maintain effective housekeeping in workplace area for safety and better hygienic conditions for all team members.

Qualifications

1. Employees in this position prior to April 2014 are presumed to be qualified and are "grandfathered" into their positions.
2. Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
3. Must pass a background check and credit check.
4. Preferred – high school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
5. Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus.
6. Ability to communicate with others effectively; understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as the job demands.
7. Willingness to learn how to: sort metal, identify colors, shapes, and weights; properly maintain equipment; properly utilize PPE.
