Job summary

Town of Erie is seeking a part‑time Waste Diversion Technician to guide residents at the Erie Recycling Center, educate on recycling guidelines, and support zero‑waste initiatives at Town events.

Flexible weekend hours, with possible weekday/evening shifts for events. Minimum 18 years old and 1+ year of customer service required; bachelor’s or associate degree in sustainability/environmental services preferred.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of customer service experience
• 18 years of age or older
• Recycling center/waste diversion experience
• Excellent communication skills including phone, email, and in person engagement
• Independent worker with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to self-direct and work independently without significant oversight
• Proven ability to learn new skills and concepts
• Ability to communicate problems and suggest practical solutions
• Ability to effectively present information to customers and staff

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to Erie residents to ensure they comply with material quality standards and to communicate the impacts of contamination.
• Consistent proactive engagement with facility users, sharing education and assisting those with ADA needs.
• Conducting quality control of all received materials to eliminate contamination.
• Maintain the Recycling Center public drop‑off turnabout and adjacent property in a safe, orderly, and clean condition.
• Provide courteous and professional customer service at all times.
• Coordinate with the Sustainability Manager and other Waste Division Technician through regular communication.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
