Job summary

Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center is seeking a Weekend Program MRI Technologist to join a high-performing MRI team.

The role offers a 36-hour weekend schedule in a state-of-the-art imaging environment with GE & Siemens scanners, providing a wide range of advanced exams and strong professional growth opportunities. Responsibilities include patient imaging, history intake, contrast administration under Radiologist supervision, and image post-processing.

Qualifications

  • Advanced training beyond high school including an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • MRI safety knowledge and cross-sectional anatomy familiarity.
  • Excellent patient communication and service skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a clinical imaging setting.
  • Intermediate computer skills for RIS/PACS and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate MRI equipment to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic exams (MSK, neuro, body).
  • Obtain patient history, verify orders, and administer contrast under Radiologist direction.
  • Position patients, adjust scanning factors, ensure image quality and safety.
  • Post-process images and correctly label with patient and study information.
  • Perform QA checks and report equipment issues; support patient care per age-specific needs.

Weekend Program Schedule (36 hours per week)

Major Responsibilities:

Competently operates magnetic resonance (MR) equipment used to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures. Procedures include routine musculoskeletal, neurological and orthopedic imaging, arthrogram, neurological angiography, body imaging, and small joint imaging. Obtains medical history from patients, compares requisitions to physician's orders to ensure ordered exam accuracy, and prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist. Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images, and provides magnet protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies. Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images. Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges. Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluates new products and equipment. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age‑specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age‑specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) or Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 2 years, and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.

Education Required:

Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.

Experience Required:

No experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and magnetic safety. Competent in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility). Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members. Ability to work independently. Intermediate computer skills.

Certification Addendum

Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital based certifications (e.g.DNV, CARF or others).

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.
